[Marc C. Pietrek/www.vitriolinc.com] Per Kickstarter.com (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/146074537/restore-musonia-and-the-randy-rhoads-museum/description), according to Kelle Rhoads, the younger brother of the late, great iconic Randy Rhoads, the MUSONIA SCHOOL OF MUSIC in North Hollywood, Califonia is slated for being repainted and refinished. At the same time, the second half of the building’s grand salon (previously closed to tours) will be cleaned and re-opened as the OFFICIAL RANDY RHOADS MUSEUM. This will serve as a dedicated and secured space for Randy Rhoads artifacts and memorabilia. As many fans already know, Randy learned and taught guitar to students there before and while he was a member of QUIET RIOT before eventually becoming the original guitarist in OZZY OSBOURNE’s band. His body of work has served as a template for heavy metal and hard rock guitar players globally both before his tragic untimely death on March 19, 1982 and the thirty-five years since then. It is safe to say that it will continue for many future generations to to come.
The school was opened by Randy and Kelle’s mother, music instructor Delores Rhoads, in 1948. Former instructors at the school also include noted guitarist George Lynch (KXM, LYNCH MOB, ex- DOKKEN) and bassist Rudy Sarzo (The GUESS WHO, ex- OZZY OSBOURNE, ex-QUIET RIOT, ex- WHITESNAKE, ex- BLUE OYSTER CULT, ex- DIO, ex- YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, etc.). Kelle continues to run and operate the school. It provides guitar, piano and drums instruction at an affordable price.
The school MUST have this URGENT (!!) restoration work done in order for it to continue operating. The buildings exterior must be repainted to prevent decaying of the wood. The ceiling of the lobby and grand salon must be repainted as well. In addition to that, both the guitar room where Randy Rhoads taught and bathroom also need to repainted along with deep cleansing to accompany it. While the restoration takes place, the incredibly precious pieces of the Randy Rhoads Museum must be stored away and protected. The instruments and upright pianos are currently being housed in the second half of the grand salon (currently being used as a storage area) and will require being moved to the rear of the building. It is estimated that the buildings’ surface and infrastructure restoration will require up to $20,000.00. The school is offering some enticing rewards to supporters and fans who can help make this VERY realistic goal a reality. Ok, ya rivet-heads. Anybody who knows anything about me knows that Randy Rhoads has been a huge part of my life since the early 1980s. When people mention Eddie Van Halen (who I also greatly admire), I retort with Randy Rhoads. As my good friend, UNCIVIL WAR guitarist/vocalist Scott Owen (also of SUBVERSION A.D., ex-HIRAX, ex-PIRANHA, ex-ELIMINATE) stated in an interview that I conducted with him last Novemeber, “Thirty- plus years later, we’re still talking about him. That’s how amazing he was”. For my money, he IS and ALWAYS WILL BE the GREATEST heavy metal/hard rock guitar player of ALL-TIME!! Randy always thought of himself as a teacher of music first and foremost, not as a rock-star. He left that for OZZY to do. What would be a better way to honor his life and legacy than helping restore the school that he learned and instructed in? There is already the EXPERIENCE HENDRIX MUSEUM in Seattle, Washington for the legions of Jimi Hendrix fans. It is time that there is now an official museum where current and future fans of Randy Rhoads museum can go to and appreciate for years to come.
Cheers, ya rivet-heads!!
