BAND FEATURE: DEATHBEARER (Germany)
Written Marc C. Pietrek 2017
[Marc C. Pietrek filed the following report for VITRIOLINC, INC / A DARK UNITED FRONT (www.vitriolinc.com) on 10/16/2017] The fighter took a long, hard look at his opponent and came to the realization that he had met his match. He had just taken blows that were unexpected 2:00AM dead-sleep wake up calls to his liver and kidneys and ones that had left his brain reverberating like an old school final attendance bell ringing through a corridor of an old, run-down high school. The style of fighting that had worked so well for him in his quest for domination in his chosen field was now under scrutiny within his own mind. That sting that he was feeling? Yeah, that was his pride fucking with him and that was the only motivation he needed. He paused and reflected briefly and then came out of his corner, steely-eyed and determined. He would now use his pallet of different techniques learned so he could finish off his opponent in a timely fashion. At the same time, as he tasted the iron in his own blood in his mouth, he wanted to take his time driving his point home. He wanted his opponent to realize that they had picked the wrong opponent to get down and get serious with before their limp body hit the mat and had to be carried off, unquestionably defeated. Absolute victory achieved.
OK, rivet-heads. Maybe the analogy is a bit of a stretch. However, upon my first listening to DEATHBEARER, I must say that this Hamburg, Germany four-piece combines a variety of metal/hardcore influences and the result is pretty damn pleasing to this old-school metal curmudgeon. I hear everything from (early) ENTOMBED, OBITUARY, HATEBREED, (early) MACHINEHEAD, ASPHYX and (late 80s/early 90s) SLAYER and EXODUS. Most of their songs do not go past the two-and-a-half-minute mark. Short songs that are great combination punches to the ears and most definitely hit the bullseye. The band (Sven, Freddy, Andre and Niels…seriously, I could not find any more information than that as far as last names and who plays what instruments) formed in late 2014 and has released two EPs, ‘Suffering’ [2015 POWERTRIP RECPORDS] and ‘Seeds of Evil’ [2017 POWERTRIP RECPORDS]. Bes sure to check out their band page at Bandcanp.com (https://deathbearer.bandcamp.com/) and their official Facebook band page (https://www.facebook.com/Deathbearer666/) and check out the links listed directly below. Cheers, ya rivet-heads!!
